Let the record show that on Sunday, Ollie Simmonds scored 135.60 points and lost.

His Sir, TheyHitThe2ndBowers was the second-highest scorer in the entire league in Week 7. Only Ryan Weaver's Joe Buck Yourself beat it, with 136.42, a margin of 0.82. Kirk Cousins gave Simmonds 24.40, Luther Burden III gave him 23.70, and Josh Jacobs added 20.10. By any sane standard that is a winning lineup. Simmonds is now 0-7, the only winless team in Heavyweights, with a luck rating of -0.403 that is the worst in the league by a wide margin. The weakest starter on his side was A.J. Brown at 7.80. Weaver's was Derrick Henry at 5.90, and Henry's 5.90 cost Weaver nothing because Zay Flowers (27.70) and Omar Cooper Jr. (22.50) did the heavy lifting. Simmonds has a runner-up finish in the archive and no title. I have said it before and I'll say it again: formal recognition for the ringless finalists is overdue, and the Hall of Fame page has room.

History will remember this. Simmonds will not enjoy being remembered for it.

The Cheese Stands Alone

Trent Harley is 7-0. His ParmBijan Cheese beat Brian Jones 121.48 to 94.98 behind a 36.88-point Joe Burrow, with Jameson Williams adding 26.10. Jones got 28.28 from Bo Nix and still managed to lose by 26 points, because Garrett Wilson (4.60) and Ja'Kobi Lane (5.50) were holding down two starting slots like men guarding a bank vault with nothing inside.

I log the 7-0 with respect. I also log the luck rating, +0.377, the highest in the league, and an all-play record of 48-29 that trails Weaver's 60-17 by a gulf. Weaver is 6-1 and has scored 1,013.42 points to Harley's 858.92. Harley's archive page shows a single playoff game, a loss. I merely note which of these two is the better team and which one has the better record.

Brian Jones and the Long Walk

Longtime readers know what comes next. Jones is a champion, once, and has also finished runner-up three times, and he now sits at 3-4 on two straight losses with an all-play record of 20-57, the worst in the league. His Cameron Crazies have the lowest point total in the league, 710.62, and the all-play mark of a team with a hostage situation. The tragedy of the man is not that he never won. It is that he won, and the archive still has three more finals sitting next to that title with the wrong result. This year he has not yet arrived at anything.

Two Games You Could Lose in a Couch Cushion

Ben Cunnion beat Justin Waitt 113.02 to 112.60, a margin of 0.42. The bcunnion franchise, a team named after its own login with the creative energy of a parking permit, now has W4 and a 5-2 record. Waitt is 2-5 on five straight losses despite 877.12 points scored, second-most in the league. His lineup gave Jaxon Smith-Njigba 31.30 and Trey McBride 27.10, then started Ted Hurst III for a flat zero and Darius Cooper for 2.70. When a team is second in the league in scoring and ninth in the standings, the problem is almost never the schedule alone.

Nick Inman's TacoDreams edged Evan Sinn's 4th and 20, 117.76 to 116.58. Inman is 5-2 on four straight wins, and his Bucky Irving (24.00) and Christian McCaffrey (22.00) did the job in spite of Nico Collins laying down 2.60 and Pat Freiermuth giving 4.00. Sinn's side had Jalen Coker at 1.90, which at 1.18 points of margin is the whole game. Sinn is 2-5, on two straight losses, and owns two championships. I would like the record to reflect that it is hard to look like a champion from the 10th seed.

The Others

John Penney's Chase Greatness hammered Elliott Simmonds 129.42 to 95.24 behind a ridiculous 36.50 from Tony Pollard. Penney is 4-3 with an all-play mark of 29-48, which means he has been fortunate, and he holds the most career wins of anyone in this week's games, 104 overall in the archive. Elliott had Drake Maye at 32.44 and Breece Hall at a perfect zero. Yes, a zero. Check the box score.

Ryan El Masri's ArabMamba6, another franchise named for its manager's handle, beat Kevin Jones's Wade for Heisman 131.62 to 115.08. Tee Higgins went for 26.80. El Masri is 3-4 on two straight wins, and Kevin, despite Dak Prescott's 29.28, is also 3-4 and has now dropped one.

The standings tell the story the scoreboard cannot. Harley leads at 7-0, Weaver at 6-1 is the better team, Cunnion and Inman sit at 5-2, and Ollie Simmonds is 0-7 at the bottom after a 135.60 that would have embarrassed no contender. I keep a record book, and I have never once been asked to record sympathy. I may start.
