Sources: it's done.

The Nevin Place Memorial League has another live one on its hands. Chris Boyle, 2-2 and riding a one-game winning streak out of the Mid Major Mike Division, has acquired Jaylen Warren and Adonai Mitchell. The cost: Jalen McMillan and a 2027 second-round pick, sent to Hunter Koepsell, who is 0-4, losers of four straight, and — per a person granted anonymity to speak freely — fully aware his season died somewhere around Week 2.

Let's be clear about what this is. Boyle just used two assets off a dead roster to go get a proven backfield piece and a boom-or-bust receiver while sitting at 2-2. Nobody is accusing anyone of anything. I'm simply noting that this is the move of a team that believes it's still playing for something. Draw your own conclusions. I've drawn mine.

For Koepsell, this is the correct move and I will die on this hill. A winless team at 446.72 points for, ahead of only Joe Hamm (11-41 all-play) and Ryan Weaver (6-46 all-play), has no business holding a running back like Warren for a playoff push that isn't coming. He flips that kind of production for McMillan, a cheaper long-term piece, and a 2027 second that could be gold if this roster bottoms out the way Week 4 suggests it will.

The loser, per sources close to the situation? Everybody else in the Mid Major Mike Division. Boyle was 2-2 and mid-table. Net it out and he's up one roster piece, Warren for McMillan plus Mitchell thrown in, and that's the kind of quiet math that makes a division race tighter than the standings page admits.

McBoyle will no doubt have a glowing, suspiciously well-sourced writeup of this from the other side of the newsroom by tonight. I'd ask him about the optics. I already know what he'll say.

More on this as it develops.
